After another tremendous regular season, the Dallas Cowboys' campaign ended with more playoff disappointment. Even though it's a feeling Cowboys fans have often felt over the last near-30 years, that hasn't stopped the fanbase from still believing that America's Team can win a Super Bowl in the near future.

The Cowboys' roster has room for improvement and management can address some of those issues at the 2024 NFL Draft. Getting younger and better will be the main goal in April and, fortunately, Jerry Jones & Co. can now expect a couple of extra picks to help them towards that goal.

Cowboys Compensatory Draft Picks 2024

Over the Cap has released its 2024 compensatory pick projections and even though nothing is official, things look promising for Dallas. As it stands, the Cowboys are projected to receive two extra picks for April's draft.

The Cowboys only had five draft picks ahead of the compensatory projections, so these two selections are welcomed news. Dallas holds each of its picks in the first three rounds but won't draft again until the 172nd selection is made (barring any potential trades).

What are Compensatory Picks?

NFL teams are awarded compensatory picks based on how many free agents leave and sign with the team. Unrestricted free agents who hit the open market before 4 p.m. on the Monday following the previous season's draft and rank within the top 35% of all league players qualify for compensatory picks.

In other words, losing more free agents than you sign results in compensatory picks being handed out. These selections can range anywhere from Round 3 to Round 7, however, a team can't receive more than four of them in one year.

The Cowboys looked like true Super Bowl contenders before collapsing against the Green Bay Packers in the playoffs. Hopefully, they're able to find some hidden gems with their new compensatory picks to help end the championship drought next season.
