Cowboys Provide Encouraging Update on CeeDee Lamb Contract Drama
By Jovan Alford
The Dallas Cowboys opened training camp this week, with rookies and veterans reporting to Oxnard, California. However, one important player is missing from camp and that is star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
Lamb and the Cowboys are embroiled in ongoing contract talks that have been the topic of conversation for the entire offseason. Lamb isn’t the only star player in Dallas looking for a new deal as Prescott is in the same boat.
The last thing we heard on the contract extension front for Lamb wasn’t encouraging as it reportedly could take some time, maybe weeks for a new deal to get ironed out. According to Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones, the former first-round pick wants to be the highest-paid non-QB in the NFL.
After the season Lamb had in 2023, you cannot blame him for wanting to be paid what he’s worth, especially after seeing other wide receivers around the league get new deals.
At Saturday’s training camp practice in Oxnard, Jones had an interesting update for Cowboys fans on Lamb, which signals that things are potentially moving in the right direction.
According to Jane Salter of the NFL Network, Jones said that Dallas sent Lamb a new offer on Friday and good conversations are happening with the star wide receiver’s representation.
We still don’t know what the Cowboys offered Lamb for good convos to be taking place, but if you are a Dallas fan, this is a major positive in this ongoing saga. For the Cowboys to win the NFC East and make a deep playoff run this coming season, they need Lamb happy and on the field.
Last season, Lamb proved why he deserves to be one of the highest-paid players in the NFL after setting career highs across the board in targets (181), receptions (135), receiving yards (1,749), and touchdowns (12).
Without Lamb on the field, this Cowboys’ offense looks different, and that’s not good for their championship aspirations. Nonetheless, fans will watch to see if the Cowboys and Lamb’s representation can get something done soon, as we enter Week 2 of training camp.
