Cowboys Safety Juanyeh Thomas Sounds Off On Team's Fans on Social Media
The 2024 NFL offseason hasn't been the most pleasant experience for Dallas Cowboys fans. Tension is growing across the fanbase due to the Cowboys front office's lackadaisical approach to free agency, resulting in their failure to fill several roster holes while new ones emerged as the likes of Tyron Smith and Tony Pollard departed last month.
Throw in the fact that Dallas' Super Bowl drought is nearing 30 years, it's easy to see why Cowboys fans are fed up with the franchise. But while fans arguing with each other about what the team should/shouldn't be doing isn't anything new, it's at the point where one player has gotten into the mix.
Cowboys News: Safety Juanyeh Thomas Rips Dallas Fans
After the Seattle Seahawks posted a video of their players having fun with a drill, Cowboys safety Juanyeh Thomas used it as an opportunity to urge Dallas fans to have more fun. The 23-year-old defender quouted the video on X (formerly Twitter), telling fans that it might be best to take a step back and relax.
"I love how other teams can post stuff like this and their fans are like, 'I love how my team is having fun!'" Thomas posted to X. "God forbid our media team post something like this, most our fans gone say, 'See this is why we don't take football serious.'"
It's honestly easy to see both sides of the argument.
On one hand, Thomas is right. Fans can sometimes forget that football is a game and that the NFL exists for entertainment purposes. Players are also human beings who need to enjoy what they're doing as opposed to emotionless robots who do nothing but grind for their jobs.
At the same time, it's easy to see why fans wouldn't be happy if the Cowboys posted a similar video.
Again, it's been nearly three decades since America's Team last won a Super Bowl and there's still a bad taste in the fanbase's mouth after being embarrassed by the Green Bay Packers in the playoffs. That's without mentioning the team's lack of offseason moves as well as the Dak Prescott contract situation.
If the Cowboys posted a "Having fun with it" sort of video, you can bet that the comments would be littered with fans saying things like "Jerry Jones is more focused on having fun than winning titles." But then they don't post videos like that and the fanbase wonders why. It's a lose-lose situation.
Whether it's having more fun or winning a Super Bowl, all eyes are on Dallas to see how it performs this fall. For now, the Cowboys head into the 2024 NFL Draft tied for the fourth-best odds to hoist the Lombardi Trophy on FanDuel Sportsbook.
