The Dallas Cowboys have a lot of expectations for the 2024 campaign. The live bullets begin on Sept. 8 against the Cleveland Browns but until we get there, the Cowboys have some work to do along the roster.

The deadline to get the roster down to 53 players is on Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET. With the time ticking, the Cowboys decided to let go of a veteran defender they recently added.

Cowboys News: Carl Lawson Gets Released by Dallas

Per Todd Archer of ESPN, the Cowboys have let go of defensive end Carl Lawson. He just joined the Cowboys on Aug. 19 on a one-year deal but they decided to let him go. Archer added that Lawson may return to the practice squad.

The Cowboys have been looking for more help off the EDGE since Sam Williams went down with a torn ACL and MCL.

Even though they brought in Lawson just last week, the relationship didn't start well. Lawson's play took a step back when he tore his Achilles in 2021 with the New York Jets. Last season in New York, the Auburn product played in six games, logging five tackles and zero sacks.

In his career with the Jets and Cincinnati Bengals, Lawson has compiled 119 total tackles, 27 sacks, and three forced fumbles.

There may be some juice left in the tank but it remains to be seen if he will be able to show that in a Cowboy uniform.

The Cowboys already have a meeting set up with another defensive lineman. If things go well, Lawson's tenure in Dallas will stay short-lived.
