Every year, Week 1 inevitably produces its share of overreactions. If your team played like trash, then the sky is falling. If your team dominated, then they may never lose again.

One place where these overreactions are particularly notable is in futures odds. It's not uncommon to see a team's Super Bowl odds swing drastically, for instance, based on its Week 1 performance. It's the only data we have to go off of, so bettors and sportsbooks place far too much weight on it. By comparison, a Week 14 or Week 15 game isn't going to move the needle nearly as much.

Fortunately for us, the Cowboys were one of the teams that dominated in Week 1. And while their Super Bowl odds didn't change as much as, say, the Browns (+3500 to +2500), they still shifted pretty significantly after their 40-0 thumping of the Giants, moving from +1400 to +1100.

In other words, a $100 bet on Dallas to win the Super Bowl would now return $1,100 in profit. If you had made the same bet last week, however, it would have yielded $1,400 in profit -- a $300 difference.

That's one reason why we've been hammering the Cowboys all preseason, as we expected the odds to shorten once the season started. Many times, the best odds you're ever going to get are in the preseason.

In this case, Dallas made a huge statement with its season-opening win. Not only was it a historic and dominant victory, but it also came on the road against a division rival that made the playoffs last year. If the Cowboys can do that to a quality team like the Giants, then they're going to be extremely dangerous this year, especially if they stay healthy and continue to dominate on both sides of the ball like that.

Even with the new odds, 11 to 1 is still a really good payout. Make sure to get those odds while you still can at Caesars Sportsbook.
