The Dallas Cowboys have yet to resolve the contract drama surrounding their star players. Dak Prescott is entering the final year of his contract, CeeDee Lamb remains in a contract holdout with no end in sight, and Micah Parsons is still expecting a contract extension. Jerry Jones and Co. seem steadfast in their intention of playing hardball.

The recent remarks by Prescott make a potential extension less likely. The franchise quarterback had previously said that money didn't matter and he was confident he would come to an agreement with the Cowboys. According to the reporting by ESPN's Todd Archer, that may have changed.

"I'm a guy that grew up with two older brothers. You understand what a brotherhood means, not only for just this team but the fraternity of the NFL and the players. The money is out there and the money can happen. It can be done. There's ways to make everything work for both ways. That's in that sense it's always about pushing the envelope for the next man."

This is not to say that the contract negotiations between Prescott and Dallas are over. On the contrary, both sides have recently acknowledged that talks are ongoing. Prescott also added that he still believes the front office and he can work something out that benefits both sides.

What changed, however, is the 31-year-old's tone. Prescott made a point to highlight his obligation towards other quarterbacks and teammates. Saying that "the money is out there", Dak implies that he deserves to get paid commensurate with his skill level. This likely reduces the probability that he will give the Cowboys a hometown discount.

Prescott, who is coming off the best season of his career, finishing second in the MVP voting, is entering the final year of his four-year, $140 million deal and counts for $55 million towards the salary cap. He is rightfully expecting an annual salary around that range, similar to what Jordan Love, Joe Burrow, and Trevor Lawrence get.
