The 2024 season is pivotal for many people within the Dallas Cowboys’ organization, including star quarterback Dak Prescott.

Prescott is entering the final year of a four-year, $160 million contract extension he signed in 2020. The veteran quarterback wants a new deal after having a stellar 2023 campaign and seeing multiple starting QBs across the league get paid.

Even though Prescott hasn’t received a new deal yet, the veteran signal-caller still showed up to offseason workouts and training camp. Training camp hasn’t started great for Prescott, who was okay in Dallas’ first padded practice on Wednesday.

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Prescott went 11-of-19 in practice, with his best play being a pass across the field to tight end Peyton Hendershot on third down for a long gain. However, he missed a huge big play to speedy wide receiver Kavontae Turpin, who is looking to win the WR3 job with the Cowboys.

Cowboys fans don’t like seeing Prescott with a 57% completion percentage in his first padded practice. However, training camp is where guys work on different things and try to ramp up for the regular season.

It also bears mentioning that the Cowboys are without star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who is looking for a new deal. Without Lamb, Dallas’ wide receiver unit looks massively different from what we saw at the end of last season.

That being said, the good news is that it’s only training camp practice and not Week 1 of the 2024 season against the Cleveland Browns. Prescott has a lot he’s playing for this season and one practice misstep won’t change his ultimate goal.
