DeMarvion Overshown Made Major Offseason Change for Mike Zimmer's New Defense
By Cem Yolbulan
In the 2023 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys addressed the defensive side of the ball, drafting three frontline defenders in the first four rounds of the draft. First-round pick Mazi Smith failed to meet pre-draft expectations, fourth-round pick Viliami Fehoko never saw the field, and third-round pick DeMarvion Overshown suffered an unfortunate ACL tear in preseason and missed his entire rookie campaign.
With the Cowboys failing to make any offseason additions outside of linebacker Eric Kendricks, it will be up to these youngsters to develop and become key depth pieces for the team.
DeMarvion Overshown will be especially important with the departure of Leighton Vander Esch and the overall lack of depth in the position.
Fortunately for Cowboys fans, it looks like the former Texas standout is ready to take that big step forward next season.
Cowboys News: LB DeMarvion Overshown Bulking Up Ahead of Next Season
In a recent social media post, Overshown put a photo of a scale that showed him pushing 235 lbs. As it was pointed out by Pro Football Network's Tony Catalina, that is a 15-lbs difference than his listed weight a year ago.
This is in line with what new Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer wants from his defensive line. He has indicated his desire for more size and strength upfront and it looks like Overshown is ready to provide that for him.
There is a decent chance Dallas will take a linebacker in one of the earlier rounds of the NFL Draft. Even if so, Overshown will be a huge X-factor as the Cowboys struggled to defend the run last season.
When drafted, the Texas native was projected to have excellent speed and explosiveness for the position while concerns about his strength were raised. It's great to see that he is addressing those concerns head-on.
