Texas Rangers fans were given quite a scare during Sunday's spring training game against the San Francisco Giants. Rookie outfielder Evan Carter's forearm was hit by a pitch during the first inning, requiring the MLB's No. 5 prospect to exit the game and not return. Fortunately, post-game X-rays revealed that no significant damage had been done.

Carter spoke with the media on Monday about his injury and didn't mince any words. The 21-year-old OF told reporters that he was "just pissed" about getting by Kyle Harrison's pitch but clarified that he wasn't angry at any individual player, just the situation itself, per Rangers insider Evan Grant.

Rangers News: Evan Carter Injury Update

Carter did add that he isn't concerned about his forearm, which is great news. According to Grant, the rookie plans to wear a "moldable shield on his forearm" against the Chicago White Sox on Monday and will likely wear the protection more often going forward.

Carter has been a Rangers fan favorite ever since making his Major League debut in September. The fact that he's already mature enough at 21 not to make a fiasco out of an accidental situation will only earn him more respect around the MLB.

The former 2020 second-rounder made the most of his September call-up, racking up five home runs, 12 RBIs, and 12 walks while slashing .306/.413/.645 across 23 games. It's a small sample size, but that performance had him on pace for 35 HRs with 85 RBIs across a 162-game schedule.

Carter's terrific play didn't stop there, though. The Elizabethton, TN native played a huge role in the Rangers' eventual 2023 World Series win, tallying one homer with six RBIs, 10 walks, and three stolen bases with a .300/.417/.500 slash line throughout the postseason. Interestingly enough, he was also hit by two pitches during the playoff run.

Hopefully, Carter's forearm heals up quickly so he can pick up from where he left off once the 2024 MLB season begins. Despite entering the new campaign as the defending champions, the Rangers only have the sixth-best 2024 World Series odds on DraftKings Sportsbook.
