Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Martavis Bryant is staying in the NFC East after being released by Dallas a few months ago. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Bryant will be signing with the Washington Commanders.

NFL News: Commanders Sign WR Martavis Bryant

On Monday, Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz reported that the veteran wide receiver was set to work out for the Commanders on Tuesday after coming in for a workout in May.

The 32-year-old Bryant did not play in any regular season games with the Cowboys after they signed him to the practice squad in November of last season. Before Bryant joined Dallas, he played in the XFL in 2023 with the Vegas Vipers.

The former Clemson wide receiver didn’t do much in the XFL with the Vipers but managed to have 14 receptions for 154 yards. It was an important step in Bryant’s comeback attempt after being suspended by the NFL in 2018 for violations of the personal conduct policy.

Before his second suspension in 2018, Bryant was one of the better deep threats in the NFL as he was a playmaker with the Pittsburgh Steelers, averaging 15.2 yards per reception and scoring 17 touchdowns in three seasons.

However, Bryant couldn’t duplicate that same playmaking ability in his only season with the then Oakland Raiders in 2018. The former fourth-round pick recorded 19 receptions (27 targets) for 266 yards.

Nonetheless, Bryant will hope to make the Commanders’ 53-man roster, which won’t be easy as they have Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, Luke McCaffrey (rookie), Olamide Zaccheaus, Dyami Brown, and Jamison Crowder.

That said, Washington must see something they like in the former Cowboys receiver to bring him in twice to the practice facility. We’ll see if Bryant can stick with Washington for the rest of the preseason.
