Infamous Ex-Cowboys Defender Already Causing Trouble With New Team
By Cem Yolbulan
The Dallas Cowboys received plenty of attention this offseason with their endless off-the-field drama. The stalemate with Dak Prescott, the contract holdout of CeeDee Lamb, and numerous speculations surrounding Micah Parsons understandably brought the spotlight to the team. However, the Cowboys are not the only team dealing with controversy.
In fact, a former Cowboys player is causing significant drama elsewhere. The polarizing defender Randy Gregory, who signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this spring, is not attending the team's minicamp. He is on pace to miss all three days of mandatory workouts and incur over $100,000 in fines from the Bucs.
NFL News: Randy Gregory Missing Mandatory Minicamp
According to Bucs insider Rick Stroud, the team doesn't know why Gregory is missing the camp.
Gregory recently filed a lawsuit against the NFL and the Denver Broncos for fines incurred for using marijuana. Alleging discrimination, Gregory, who was fined over $500k for positive THC tests, claims that he was prescribed a synthetic form of THC for his issues with social anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Perhaps his absence could be related to this litigation. It could also be related to various mental health issues he has had to deal with in the past.
Despite a promising start to his career, Gregory has regularly had to deal with suspensions and fines related to violations of the league's substance policies. His Cowboys tenure, which lasted from 2015 to 2022 until he signed a five-year, $70 million deal with the Denver Broncos, was marred with extended absences.
Over the five years with the Cowboys, Gregory appeared in 50 games and recorded 16.5 sacks and 85 tackles. The 31-year-old is attempting to revive his career after signing a one-year deal with the Bucs this offseason but he is unfortunately not off to a great start.
