The Dallas Cowboys’ rushing attack has failed to take off through the first month of the season, which has led to fans wondering if or when they will see veteran running back Dalvin Cook.

The veteran running back was signed to the practice squad at the end of August, giving Dallas another dependable option in the backfield if an injury happened.

Thankfully, the Cowboys’ RB room has stayed healthy but hasn’t produced. Heading into Week 5, Dallas is ranked 32nd in the league in rushing (75.3 yards per game). With that in mind, one would think a potential Dalvin Cook call-up from the practice squad would be on the horizon.

However, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones threw cold water on that idea when speaking on 105.3 The Fan Tuesday morning.

According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, Jones was asked if Cook would be elevated to the active roster this week and said “Probably not this week.”

As you can imagine, Cowboys fans were disappointed to hear this from Jones as Ezekiel Elliott has been a bust of a free-agent signing. The veteran running back has produced 81 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries, with a pedestrian 3.4 yards per carry average.

Meanwhile, Rico Dowdle is Dallas’ leading rusher with 134 yards on 34 carries (3.9 YPC). That is slightly better than what Elliott is providing but the unit isn’t producing, which will hold back Dallas’ offense this season.

The Cowboys refused to upgrade the running back position despite the names on the free-agent market. And now Dallas is being stubborn by not taking a chance on Cook, who could give you more than what Elliott and second-year running back Deuce Vaughn are providing.
