Mavs Re-Signing Familiar Face to Add Offensive Firepower
The Dallas Mavericks entered the offseason with a clear focus on improving the roster around the duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
They were able to make it to the NBA Finals but fell short to the Boston Celtics due to their role players failing to make an impact.
Dallas added Klay Thompson, Naji Marshall, and Quentin Grimes this offseason but their latest addition is a blast from the past.
Mavs News: Spencer Dinwiddie Re-Signs With Dallas
According to Shams Charania, the Dallas Mavericks and guard Spencer Dinwiddie agreed on a one-year deal.
Last season, he started the year with the Brooklyn Nets before getting traded to the Toronto Raptors. He was eventually bought out and opted to join the Los Angeles Lakers despite having some interest from Dallas.
The 31-year-old now gives Dallas a quality role player off the bench who can give either Doncic or Irving a break. The Colorado product can create its own shot while having solid vision as a passer.
During the 2021-22 postseason run with Dallas, he averaged 14.2 points, 3.6 assists, and shot 41.7% from beyond the arc. In his 10-year career, Dinwiddie logs 13.3 points, three rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game.
As the Mavs look to build off a quality season in 2023-24, they added veterans with playoff experience.
Having veterans deep on your bench pays dividends as the season goes on. They were missing that in the NBA Finals and Nico Harrison made sure to change that heading into next season.
