The Dallas Cowboys lost plenty of talent this offseason with the departures of key starters. Since they decided to mostly stand pat during free agency, they are going to have to fill these holes internally and hope for significant development from some of their backups.

One of these players is defensive end Sam Williams. The former second-round pick of the Cowboys is preparing for a breakout season and is working with his fellow teammate and star edge rusher Micah Parsons to do so.

Posting on social media, Williams captioned their workout photos with "our year twin", showing his excitement about taking a larger role next season, possibly on the opposite side of Parsons.

The Cowboys had high hopes for Williams when they drafted him out of Ole Miss. He was the prototypical pass-rushing prospect with elite physical and athletic tools. He had collected 32.5 tackles for a loss, 22.5 sacks, and six forced fumbles in his three seasons there while breaking the Ole Miss single-season sack record as a senior.

On the Cowboys' stacked edge rushing rotation, Williams saw 27% and 28% of defensive snaps in back-to-back years, respectively. He split his time between the pass rush and punt-blocking duties on special teams.

However, now that veteran defensive end Dorance Armstrong signed with the Washington Commanders in free agency, it will be Williams' time to shine.

The 25-year-old who recorded 26 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 17 games last season, will look to make a bigger impact as a complement to Parsons in 2024.

Despite the lack of activity in free agency, the Cowboys still start the season with the fifth-best odds (+1300) to win the Super Bowl. Head over to FanDuel Sportsbook now, sign up, and claim your $200 in bonus bets after your first winning wager.
