The Dallas Cowboys haven't had the splashiest offseasons this year. They mostly lost key veterans without finding suitable replacements. The biggest signing they made was bringing back their former star rusher Ezekiel Elliott.

Zeke may not be the explosive playmaker he was early in his career but his name was enough to bring excitement to Cowboys fans. Considering the lack of high-end talent in the running back room in Dallas, this is certainly understandable.

However, it doesn't seem like the fans are the only ones pumped about the Pro Bowl rusher's return. Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is similarly excited to have his star running back back. If anything, he may be too excited.

Cowboys News: Mike McCarthy Can't Contain His Excitement About Having Zeke Back

When talking to the press about having Zeke back, McCarthy said it felt like he never left. Highlighting how good it is to have Elliott back in the building, the veteran head coach underlined Zeke's attitude in a humorous way.

The fondness McCarthy feels towards Zeke is definitely understandable. In his three seasons under McCarthy, Elliott scored a total of 32 touchdowns and went over 1,000 yards from scrimmage in two out of three seasons.

Elliott will try to get back to that level of production in Dallas after having the worst season of his career in New England in 2023. McCarthy said earlier that he doesn't expect Zeke to be the workhorse RB1 Zeke was back in the day. Instead, he wants to utilize him as part of the running back committee, which should help the 28-year-old rusher get back to his old self.

Regardless of how Zeke plays next season in Dallas, everyone seems to be thrilled to have him back and that is excellent news for the locker room.
