The Dallas Mavericks have been one of the most active teams of the offseason so far, doing a masterful job of reshaping their roster around Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Over the last couple of days, they turned Tim Hardaway Jr., Josh Green, and Derrick Jones Jr. into Naji Marshall, Klay Thompson, and Quentin Grimes, a significant upgrade in shooting and two-way ability.

After all these moves, what does the rotation look like? Let's take a look.

Starters

Luka Doncic
Kyrie Irving
Klay Thompson
PJ Washington
Dereck Lively II

It's safe to assume that Klay Thompson will begin the season in the starting lineup, replacing Derrick Jones Jr. There will certainly be matchups where Quentin Grimes or Naji Marshall close games over Thompson when the team needs more defense.

Lively will also likely take over from Daniel Gafford in the starting lineup in his second season. However, the duo should continue to largely split minutes at center throughout the year.

Definite Rotation Players

Quentin Grimes
Naji Marshall
Daniel Gafford

As things stand now, the first three players off the bench will likely be Grimes, Marshall, and Gafford. They should all play over 20 minutes per game during the regular season. One can reasonably expect at least two of Irving, Doncic, and Thompson on the court at all times, not leaving too much playing time for other backcourt players.

That doesn't mean, however, that there won't be players emerging to be a consistent part of the rotation. It just means that there are uncertainties about the rest of the depth chart.

Potential Rotation Players

Jaden Hardy
Dante Exum
Maxi Kleber

Head coach Jason Kidd's rotation will likely go to ten players during the regular season. This means that two of these three players will presumably see significant minutes throughout the year. Hardy is a candidate for a breakout season in his third year while Exum provides another defensive option in the backcourt.

Maxi Kleber is the stretch big option the Mavericks have and should see more minutes when any of PJ Washington, Daniel Gafford, or Dereck Lively misses time.

Deep Bench Options

Olivier-Maxence Prosper
Dwight Powell
AJ Lawson

These names could change depending on how the rest of the offseason plays out. There might be more newcomers or departures. As things stand, however, Dwight Powell and AJ Lawson seem like the least likely players to be a part of the rotation to start the season. Olivier-Maxence Prosper didn't show much in his rookie season but the 21-year-old forward could see a larger role in 2024-25 if his team needs more size and athleticism.

Mavericks GM Nico Harrison did an excellent job so far in the offseason. Whether he has more cards up his sleeve remains to be seen but regardless of what happens next, the Mavericks are deeper and more talented than last year.
