The Dallas Cowboys have made the tough cuts to get to a 53-man roster, as has the rest of the league. That also means that old friends are getting cut, and one ex-Cowboys defensive back got the boot before even getting a real shot.
The Seattle Seahawks released Trevon Diggs from their 53-man roster, and all Cowboys fans can tell you they aren't surprised one bit. However, per Jordan Schultz, the Seahawks signed Diggs to the practice squad. That's not a bad gig to have, but you have to remember where Diggs was a few years back.
That all feels like a blur now, but Cowboys fans could've predicted this from when the Seahawks took him in on Day 1.

The Seahawks do have something to go off of from Diggs' preseason finale. He recorded an interception, and he may be a piece to look at if the Seahawks' secondary ends up getting thin; Diggs will get his number called.
Still, the Seahawks are the defending champs with everything to be excited about on defense. Devon Witherspoon signed a four-year, $132 million contract extension. They also have Josh Jobe and Nick Emmanwori. They also have Terrion Arnold on the roster, and who knows if he's even eligible to play football again.
Diggs has a lot of work to do to realistically play again, but he was already showing signs of this. He played with the Packers after being released by the Cowboys in an injury-riddled season, and he didn't do much. His time with the Pack was short-lived, as he racked up two total tackles and played only one snap in the playoff game against the Bears.
Diggs has a long way to go from his 2021 All-Pro season, when he recorded 11 interceptions and two pick-sixes. They had a pick-six king in DaRon Bland in 2023, and they seem like they're in good hands with Cobie Durant and Shavon Revel in the mix. Revel looks like he will be a CB1 at some point, but there's still work to do.
The Micah Parsons trade may have affected him more than initially thought, but he also played in one of his worst seasons in a Cowboys uniform, finishing with a 59.8 PFF grade, ranked 68th out of 114. He suffered a concussion at home, which forced him to miss two months, but when he came back, it was nothing but empty calories.
The Cowboys are in good shape without their longtime CB1, and they aren't missing him at all. Diggs may be suiting up with the defending Super Bowl champions, but it feels really empty.
All the best of luck to him in the future, but this looks like the true beginning of the end for him as an NFL cornerback.
