Fans usually don't think about their special teams too much when they think about their rosters. Kickers and return men get some shine, but long snappers and punters usually go under the radar. The Dallas Cowboys had Trent Sieg as their long snapper for the last two seasons, and barring an injury, he will likely continue to have the role for the foreseeable future.
That is why it can be hard for long snappers to find starting roles in the NFL. Teams usually have their long snappers and stick with them for a long time. Former Cowboy Tucker Addington is one of those specialists who have been looking for a long-term home for a while. On Tuesday, he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, per NFL insider Aaron Wilson, with the hopes of finally being a permanent fixture.
#Steelers expected to sign veteran long snapper Tucker Addington, per a league source. New Braunfels native last with #Texans and has snapped for multiple #NFL teams including #Patriots #Dolphins #Cowboys #Jaguars #Commanders @SamHoustonState @KPRC2

Most Cowboys fans may not remember Addington's tenure in Dallas. He was brought in mid-season in 2022 when Jake McQuaide suffered an injury. There was a competition between Matt Overton and Addington to be McQuaide's replacement. At the time, Addington had no NFL experience and Overton was a veteran and the latter won the job.
Since then, Addington has been bouncing around the league, playing in 10 games for the Patriots, Dolphins, and the Commanders. He has been an emergency backup option for these teams, getting a call when their long snapper suffers an injury.
The 27-year-old is facing an uphill battle once again, as the Steelers have Christian Kuntz as their long snapper. Kuntz has been in Pittsburgh for the past four years and is under contract for one more season. It's hard to imagine them moving on from the 30-year-old specialist this summer, meaning that Addington may find himself as a free agent once again.
