The Dallas Cowboys have been making noise on the trade market but when it comes to free agency, it’s been more about departures than it has been additions.

The Cowboys lost Jourdan Lewis to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the opening days of free agency and were dealt another blow when Demarcus Lawrence signed with the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday afternoon.

An 11-year veteran with the Cowboys, Lawrence’s departure was expected but still surprising and it caught his former teammate CeeDee Lamb by surprise as he was appearing on a live stream.

CeeDee Lamb’s Reaction to Demarcus Lawrence’s Departure Caught on Camera

Lamb was on a live stream with internet personality N3on when he learned that Lawrence was heading to the Seahawks. While Lamb was smiling at the beginning of the clip, he started to process the information in real time before making his initial comments.

“Woah…he’s gone,” Lamb said. “I gotta hit my mans up. I’m looking at the chat. …Shout out to them.”

Lamb’s reaction was warranted considering what Lawrence meant to the Cowboys. A second-round pick in the 2014 draft, the Boise State product ranks 10th all-time with 61.5 sacks. While his production included a pair of double-digit sack performances and four trips to the Pro Bowl, the 32-year-old’s production tailed off with four sacks or less in three of the past four seasons. That included last season’s campaign where Lawrence tallied three sacks in the first four games but was lost for the season after suffering a Lisfranc injury in September.

The Seahawks were not deterred by the injury, signing Lawrence to a three-year, $42 million contract. But it’s the latest step in an overhaul that has a lot of familiar faces leaving Dallas.

Former head coach Mike McCarthy parted ways with the Cowboys at the beginning of the offseason and seven-time All-Pro and nine-time Pro Bowl guard Zack Martin announced his retirement earlier this month. Lawrence’s departure was the next in line and if you’re a pessimist, there could be another one on the way if the Cowboys balk at giving Micah Parsons a contract extension.

It leads to a different looking Cowboys team that will take the field in 2025.
