Dallas Cowboys Mock Draft: All Six Picks (Adithya 1.0)
Andrew Van Ginkel, OLB/EDGE, Wisconsin
Those who get drafted this late predominantly play special teams. They simply don’t have the skills or athleticism to warrant a higher pick, but if they provide value on special teams, those drafted in the 7th round are considered a hit.
Van Ginkel is really tall but lacks size and athleticism. In addition, he lacks some pass rushing skills like technique, bend, and overall hand usage. He’s a smooth runner for his height and at Wisconsin, he was asked to drop back in coverage as a 3-4 outside linebacker.

Realistically, he doesn’t fit in with the Cowboys 4-3 scheme but he would definitely be a useful special teams player and he provides depth at defensive end. He plays the position like Randy Gregory without the explosiveness and technique. Maybe he can build on his skill-set and contribute valuable minutes for tired edge rushers but he should be used mostly for special teams.
Seeing as this mock draft is a month before the NFL Combine, every player’s evaluation on this draft is subject to change. Some will test better than others, and as a result, will generate more hype than others. What we do hope is that the Cowboys are paying some attention to these positions as these are holes that the Cowboys need to fill.
Who knows, maybe they fall in love with one of these plays in the process and elect to pick them?
