This is a position group that could go as early as seventeen or not at all. This is a really deep class this year, so odds would say the Cowboys do find some talent in the draft at some point. While there will be much discussion on when to pick a wide receiver, what happens with Amari Cooper and Randall Cobb could give more signs on which way the team will lean, and maybe not.

In the first round the names will likely be Henry Ruggs III a dynamic receiver out of Alabama and Tee Higgins a big radius receiver out of Clemson. Sure, names like Jerry Jeudy and CeeDee Lamb will get fans hyped up, but will most likely be picked well before seventeen. A name many aren’t talking about for the Cowboys in the first is Laviska Shenault Jr. and should absolutely be considered there.

In the middle rounds KJ Hill made a name for himself in Mobile, and might be a second or early third round pick. Other names to watch would be Brandon Aiyuk, Van JeffersonJalen Reagor, and Denzel Mims. I could go on in the second and third round like Quartney Davis, but for sake of time we will move on to later rounds like Devin Duvernay, Chase Claypool, and Antonio Gandy-Golden, we are still in the fourth round range here.

In the later parts of the draft players like Binjimen VictorAaron FullerJames Proche, and Joe Reed are all names to watch. This draft is so deep, really you can find immense talent into the 5th and 6th rounds. Depending on what type of receiver you need or want, depth and potential starters can be found all over this draft.

Conclusions

This class is so deep at wide receiver, grabbing one early may not yield the value of some other positions in this draft. The Cowboys could build their defense in this draft but find offensive weapons to help bolster one of the top offenses in 2019. Unless some surprises happen in free agency, there are some needs, but nothing as big as a starting quarterback or running back.

Depending on how Mike McCarthy and staff see the roster, there may not be as much as some people think right off the bat. If the staff sees the players different or better than they have been they could find themselves with a cupboard full of talent many didn’t think the Cowboys had.

It should not be a surprise if the Cowboys do grab offense early in the daft, but with how this class is built it also shouldn’t be a surprise if they don’t. Free agency will help understand both offense and defense better heading into the draft.
