Rounds 6 and 7

The last two rounds of this draft provide depth at corner but not much in way of starting, day one, corners. Names like Miles Bryant, Lamar Jackson, A.J. Green are all names here. For ball skills and toolkit, Nevelle Clarke is the better fit. Jackson is a bit of a corner/safety tweener, Green needs serious strength, and Bryant is mostly a nickle corner. Clarke has the ability to play inside or outside but will need a bit of work.

More from Cowboys Draft

The one thing Clarke has is ball skills, he seems to always be around the ball and loves to make a play on the ball if he can. He has the fluidity and speed to play on the outside but will need some strength to bring it all together. This shows up in his tackling as well and until he adds size, is a liability in the run game.

Clarke gives the ball skills the Cowboys need, but without the strength he is a developmental player at this point. If the Cowboys go with a corner really early, Clarke offers a ton of upside for depth in the last two rounds.

Names like Kevin McGill and Elijah Riley are some small school/small exposure (yes, I know Riley was on Army. Go Army, Beat Navy) names to know. The fact is the Cowboys could easily double dip at corner without Byron and potentially Anthony Brown as well. The two top corners right now are Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis.

Free agency will give us more of an idea as always, but corners are always needed. There are some really good ones in this draft to be found and at the very least depth could be found. Regardless what you think about Byron (I’m for keeping him), corner is still a need.
