Round 7

DB, Jaron Bryant

6-foot-1, 186lbs

Jaron Bryant is a cornerback but I’m moving him to free safety. The defensive back out of Fresno State is a natural playmaker with four career defensive touchdowns. He had 7 pass break-ups and 4 interceptions in 2017, 12 pass break-ups and an interception in 2018, and 8 break-ups and an interception in 2019.

He doesn’t have great speed or top-end athleticism like the two picks before him, but he has the build to put on weight, and the intangibles that make him a strong candidate to play safety.

And it doesn’t hurt he’s a DFW kid who’d be coming home.

Wrap-up

More from Cowboys Draft

I didn’t draft a pure safety to take Jeff Heath’s spot, but I’m ok with that. I know cornerback is more important and more valued by the Dallas Cowboys and free agency gave me options. My last three picks all have good special team value as well as some long-term value. Devin Duvernay specifically adds a much needed element to the offense. He’s my only offensive player drafted so he better.

Days 1 and 2 netted three potential starters. Both cornerbacks project as NFL starters and have the skill and versatility to play in Mike Nolan’s defense. Javon Kinlaw is an absolute stud who should probably go in the top-10. His injury history is the only reason I think he has a chance to fall (That and some ascending talents that the teams picking before Dallas may think are safer picks).

Next. How the Cowboys are underestimating the importance of coverage. dark

Here before free agency we can see there are multiple ways Dallas can go with this draft, but picking up a cornerback and defensive tackle in the first three rounds seems almost necessary. What do you think? Better yet, head over to the Draft Network and run some mock drafts of your own. If you do something you think is realistic, share it below.
