Dallas Cowboys 7-Round Mock Draft: Trading out of the First Round
By Reid Hanson
Round 7, Pick 231
RB, Michael Warren II
Cincinnati
A little outside the box here – Michael Warren would come into Dallas as their RB3. He’s a big guy, 5-foot-11, 218lb so he would be insurance in case Ezekiel Elliott was hurt but not impact Tony Pollard’s opportunities.
His compact frame makes him a good option in short yardage and his patience and vision let him navigate in slow developing situations. He’s shifty and quick and capable of carrying a full load if called upon.

The odds of trading back are always against you but I just see Dallas making it happen this year. They may not drop all the way to the second round but if they want to maximize value they’d be wise to have the discussion with the Colts.
If they stand pat at 17, I think the pick will be K’Lavon Chaisson (assuming C.J. Henderson is gone). If Henderson is there, I don’t think they’d even entertain a trade back.

In this scenario, the Dallas Cowboys grab their starting CB, starting slot receiver, and rotational DT all in the second round. In round 3 they add another CB capable of starting and in Round 4 they get a dynamic TE that fits perfectly with the Dallas TE corps. Round 5 they move up to snag their pass-rushing specialist (OLB/SAM/RDE) they can groom in the background in 2020. They wrap it up going with a RB who can fill in as short-yardage specialist or as a Zeke replacement.
As mention in the intro, The Dallas Cowboys seemed to have scouted a ton of players on the fringe of the 1st and 2nd round. Either they are valuing players differently than the rest of us (perfectly possible) or they are looking at moving back.
Who do you think they’re targeting? Do you think they’re planning to trade back or do you think they’re just going to reach at 17 for their player? Be sure to check their “visit” list and see who they’ve been in contact with – they always pull heavily from their interview list.
