Cowboys Already Teasing Another Offseason Disappointment to Fans
By Cem Yolbulan
The Dallas Cowboys have been one of the biggest disappointments of the 2024 NFL season. After winning 12 games in three straight years, the Cowboys are 5-8 heading into the final four weeks of the season. With the postseason now out of reach, the organization and the fanbase have turned their attention to the offseason. Unfortunately, however, it sounds like Cowboys fans have to prepare for more frustration.
On Wednesday, executive vice president Stephen Jones teased the Cowboys' offseason plans, per team insider Nick Harris. Jones said that the front office is going to have a similar financial challenge in the 2025 offseason as they did last year, and that things are going to be "really, really tight".
Cowboys Tease Yet Another Disappointing Offseason in 2025
This is a major disappointment for Cowboys fans. The organization completely botched the 2024 offseason, letting key starters walk in free agency without having sufficient replacements.
"I think we knew we were gonna have a challenge in [2024] and [2025]. It’s gonna be really, really tight. We still have some money left over from guys who are not here today, and you’re gonna have some other guys that won’t be here in the future that you’re still gonna have their cap count."

The Cowboys saw the likes of Tony Pollard, Tyron Smith, Tyler Biadasz, Dorance Armstrong, and Dante Fowler Jr. leave in the 2024 offseason. They brought back Ezekiel Elliott, and signed linebacker Eric Kendricks, and used their first-round draft pick on left tackle Tyler Guyton as their biggest moves of the offseason.
It's clear that the Cowboys ended up as big losers of the offseason. The offense went from the best in the NFL to the 21st-best, the lack of a running game and the struggling offensive line playing a huge part. The fifth-ranked defense from a year ago became the second-worst unit in the league.
The injuries obviously played a part in this but that is life in the NFL. Every team goes through significant absences to key players. That is why front offices have to build deep rosters that can sustain injuries. The Cowboys failed to do that last year and it sounds like things are not going to be any different this time around.
