Cowboys About to Make Big Mistake With Dak Prescott’s Injury
By Cem Yolbulan
Not only did the Dallas Cowboys lose their third straight game in Week 9, but they also lost Dak Prescott to a seemingly serious injury. After leaving the game with a right hamstring injury, Prescott was reportedly set to miss at least multiple games.
As the week went on, the prognosis got worse as it was revealed that Prescott suffered a partial avulsion of his hamstring tendon, potentially requiring surgery on the portion of the muscle that has torn from the bone.
If Prescott underwent surgery, it will obviously end his season. He is reportedly seeking second opinions and doesn't want to be placed on injured reserve. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed this on 105.3 The Fan on Friday, saying that the team is unsure whether to put Prescott on the IR list, per The Athletic's Jon Machota.
Cowboys Don't Want to Place Dak Prescott on Injured Reserve
It is understandable that Prescott wants to be out there with his teammates to save the Cowboys season. However, it is the organization's responsibility to make the best decisions for the team and the players. That includes taking into account the risks associated with any injuries and making a call with the future of the franchise and the health of the player in mind.
Prescott is too important a player for the organization to take the risk of putting him out there amid a 3-5 season. Dallas is likely too far behind in the NFC East to make it worth the risk. The Cowboys have four fewer wins than the Commanders and have an uphill battle to even be in the running for a wild card spot due to their tough schedule.
The Cowboys can't afford to make Prescott's injury worse and potentially suffer negative long-term consequences. The smart move is to shut Prescott down and make sure he is healthy to start next season.
