Cowboys Coach Leaving for New Job After Turning Dallas Down
By Cem Yolbulan
While the Dallas Cowboys are looking for their next head coach, the coaching carousel around the NFL doesn't stop. The rest of the league is also building their coaching staffs, which includes poaching valuable coordinators from other teams. On Monday, the Cowboys lost a key coach as part of that process.
Cowboys special teams coordinator John Fassel is reportedly headed to the Tennessee Titans, per NFL insider Tom Pelissero. Fassel, who has been with the Cowboys since 2020, will be joining Brian Callahan's staff in Tennessee.

The later reports suggested that the Cowboys wanted to keep Fassel but the experienced coordinator chose to leave. ESPN's Dan Graziano hinted that this may have something to do with the fact that the Cowboys don't have a head coach right now.
This is the latest cost of not acting with urgency for the Cowboys. Teams like the New England Patriots and the Chicago Bears have already made their coaching hires.
Not only did the Cowboys lose the top head coaching candidate on the market, Ben Johnson, to the Bears, but they also lose their valuable coaches to other teams because they are very slow in their process of hiring a head coach.
The Cowboys and Mike McCarthy were likely headed their separate ways for a long time. Instead of announcing McCarthy's departure immediately after Week 18, Jerry Jones waited to make a decision, leading the Cowboys to fall behind in the search.
Now, this has cost them Fassel, who is considered one of the best special teams coaches in the league. He has been credited with finding special teams gems like KaVontae Turpin and Brandon Aubrey. How the Cowboys will replace Fassel remains to be seen, but the Cowboys need to finalize their head coach hiring as soon as possible.
