The Dallas Cowboys came away with an impressive road win in Pittsburgh on Sunday night, improving to 3-2 for the season. Considering the number of injuries and the up-and-down performance through five weeks, that is a great place to be for the Cowboys.

The running back question, however, remains unresolved. The Cowboys remain second-to-last in the NFL in total rushing yards, yards per carry, and rushing touchdowns. Yet, they frustratingly don't seem interested in making changes to the running back room.

Before the start of the season, Dallas signed veteran rusher Dalvin Cook. Yet, he has yet to make his Cowboys debut as he hasn't been elevated from the practice squad. According to Cowboys insider Jon Machota, owner and general manager Jerry Jones was asked about this on Tuesday. Jones said that it is a long season and they are "judiciously managing snaps" of veterans.

Cowboys News: Jerry Jones Makes Ridiculous Dalvin Cook Remarks

That is an absurd comment to make by Jones. Cook hasn't played a single snap this season. Calling it "managing" his snaps is disingenuous. Plus, even if Cook were to be elevated to the active roster, he is likely not going to be an RB1 anyway. He would be a change-of-pace back behind Rico Dowdle in a limited role.

In Week 5, Deuce Vaughn was inactive against the Steelers. Dowdle played 50% of snaps and had 20 carries for 87 yards while adding two catches for 27 yards and a touchdown. Hunter Luepke and Ezekiel Elliott had eight carries between the two of them for 2.9 yards per attempt.

How Cook can't crack this rotation is incomprehensible and raises questions about why he was signed in the first place if he isn't good enough to take snaps away from this group.
