Dallas Cowboys training camp is about to start in Oxnard, and it's a time to see new faces shine. One question remains: will Jerry Jones sign a legendary pass rusher? One Cowboys writer seems to think that's possible.
Joseph Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News gave 20 predictions for the Cowboys in training camp. Is it finally time for the Cowboys to act on their subliminal message from future Hall of Famer Von Miller?
He already expressed some interest in the thought of being a Dallas Cowboy, and even though Hoyt didn't specifically say Miller's name, it sounds like it fits the billing.
"I don't think that will be a huge trade for a guy like Maxx Crosby (sorry Cowboys fans), but... The Cowboys add a veteran pass rusher before the end of training camp."
Von Miller is still available if the Cowboys want to make the move
Miller posted on his Instagram of himself in a Cowboys uniform. It was the gold coin for Jones to make a move, but it hasn't happened yet. Additionally, there was a report days later saying there wasn't much interest in the Cowboys' camp when it came to signing Miller.
Hoyt's comment on Maxx Crosby isn't too surprising, considering the Cowboys had all the chances in the world for months to make a move if they wanted to, but Jones missed his shot.
He also missed his chance with Myles Garrett, who may as well help break the league with the Los Angeles Rams. Garrett, along with Miller, has DFW ties. With Garrett moving from the AFC to the NFC, it's unfortunately another NFC team to have to worry about now.
Jones signing Miller wouldn't require a whole ton of effort. According to Spotrac, the veteran pass rusher has a market value of $5.8 million a year. He could help turn the tide on defense entirely as a veteran presence, but don't expect him to be what he was in 2015.
With the Washington Commanders last year, he played 17 games and racked up nine sacks, six tackles for loss and 26 total tackles. It's possible he can still move the needle at age 37, and it'd be the perfect homecoming to come back to DFW.
Hoyt mentioned a veteran pass rusher, and the only one linked to the Cowboys over the past few weeks is Miller. He's interested, and everybody else is interested. The Joneses can make this happen without breaking the bank.
Hoyt is a reliable beat writer, but it's still a prediction. It makes sense, and the only one that's linked as a "veteran pass rusher" that makes sense is Miller.
