It was a quiet offseason for the Dallas Cowboys, with no injuries coming in. Unfortunately, that came to an end when tight end Princeton Fant went down on Monday, and he had to be carted off. His legs got chopped from behind on a run play, and it didn't look good from the beginning.
Since then, Brian Schottenheimer said that Fant suffered an ACL and partial MCL tear and will miss the 2026 season. It's a heartbreaker for the undrafted tight end in 2023, who's done all he could, mostly on special teams.
It's also a chance for another undrafted tight end, Michael Trigg, to make the 53-man roster. Trigg has been talked about as a sleeper and someone who can make noise if given the opportunity.

Last season, Trigg was a finalist for the John Mackey Award, which goes to the best tight end in college football. He racked up 50 grabs, 694 yards and six touchdowns. He's got a big body to block but also to go downfield to make a catch. He was also a First-Team All-Big 12 player.
He has tremendous size but can go up to make catches like Mike Evans. He's got great concentration, and if Schotty wants to use him as another passing weapon in this great offense, it's not a radical idea.
He's got a long way to go to reach the others on the depth chart, but there is potential to make noise in training camp.
Jake Ferguson is the obvious TE1 on this team, with no questions asked. He's a Pro Bowler and has become Dak Prescott's security blanket.
With Luke Schoonmaker, he's been effective as a blocker at times, but remember, he was the second-round pick in 2023, right behind Mazi Smith. If Jerry Jones hasn't been afraid to get rid of a former first-rounder, you can definitely bet he's not in the mood to play around with Schoonmaker.
If he makes the cut, he's someone to watch before the trade deadline. He may only get a seventh-round pick at best, but you never know what you can come up with in those later rounds.
Brevyn Spann-Ford, who hasn't been afraid to get physical with Caleb Downs this summer, is one of the more underrated faces on the team. He's proven to be valuable as a run-blocker, and his frame is perfect to line up in I-Formations, goal-line packages, or jumbo packages.
If we're talking pure passing yardage and weapons for Prescott, Trigg is an option. They can use him downfield to get yardage, and that so-called "greatest offense" may get a little better if he proves himself and makes the team.
