Cowboys Officially Announce Big RB News Ahead of Week 8
By Cem Yolbulan
The Dallas Cowboys are getting ready for a Sunday Night Football showdown against the San Francisco 49ers after their bye week. Sitting at 3-3 after a slew of inconsistent performances, the Cowboys are desperately trying to get on the right track for a postseason push.
One of the changes that need to happen is in the running back rotation. The Cowboys have been the worst running team in the league so far, averaging 3.5 yards per carry and ranking dead last in yards and rushing touchdowns. Fans have been clamoring for a change in the Rico Dowdle-Ezekiel Elliott rotation and they are finally getting it.
Head coach Mike McCarthy teased the move earlier in the week when he suggested Dalvin Cook could play on Sunday. Cowboys insider Nick Harris confirmed on Saturday that Cook is being elevated from the practice squad to play against the 49ers.
Cowboys News: RB Dalvin Cook Will Play in Week 8
This is a big development ahead of Week 8. Despite being signed before the start of the season, Cook has yet to make his Cowboys debut. This is an excellent opportunity for the 29-year-old to get his career back on track after struggling with the Jets and the Ravens last year.
Some fans are understandably concerned about Cook's 2023 performance. The four-time Pro Bowler averaged 3.2 yards per carry in 15 games and failed to score a touchdown.
At the same time, however, it's fair to argue that the Cowboys' running game can't actually get any worse. Elliott has been a disaster all year long, and replacing him with Cook's fresh legs could do wonders for this team, at least in the short run.
