Cowboys Have Perfect Opportunity to Reunite With Former High Draft Pick
By Cem Yolbulan
Jerry Jones and the front office have made it very clear that they are not trying to make a blockbuster move this season. The Cowboys' top brass is too scared to add to their contractual obligations and would rather keep their powder dry and retain their draft assets. Considering their success in recent draft years, perhaps that is not the worst strategy.
This means that any move that they make will be on the margins for depth purposes. With that in mind, one name they can consider is former Cowboy Jabril Cox. The veteran linebacker is reportedly in good shape and is expected to work out for teams in the near future, according to NFL insider Mike Garafolo.
Cowboys Should Consider Bringing Back LB Jabril Cox
Cox was a fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft after being a standout defender for North Dakota State and LSU. His rookie season in Dallas was cut short with an ACL tear and he was never able to re-establish his career since. He appeared in 16 games for the Cowboys in two seasons, mostly on special teams, and was released prior to the 2023 offseason. He spent last season with the Commanders, appearing in 10 games before signing with the Vikings in the offseason.
Adding another competent veteran into the mix would give the Cowboys a solid linebacker rotation. They currently have DeMarvion Overshown and Eric Kendricks get the majority of the snaps while Damone Clark and Marist Liufau provide additional depth. Cox would compete with the likes of Nick Vigil and Buddy Johnson in an emergency backup and special teamer role.
