Former Cowboy Cleared to Make NFL Comeback
By Cem Yolbulan
The NFL is riddled with stories of bad injury luck. So many promising careers have been cut short or failed to reach their full potential because of injury misfortune.
One of those players is former Dallas Cowboys pick Jabril Cox. A fourth-round pick by the Cowboys in the 2021 NFL Draft, Cox was coming off an excellent season at LSU after spending the first four years of his collegiate career at North Dakota State.
As a rookie, Cox almost exclusively played on special teams and got hurt in Week 8 while covering a punt. It was later revealed that it was a torn ACL. He returned to action in Week 3 next season but he was never the same. It was constantly speculated that he never fully recovered from his ACL injury.
Before the 2023 season, he was released by the Cowboys and signed with the Commanders where he played in 10 games.
In the summer of 2024, Cox signed with the Vikings. In the preseason, he suffered a groin injury and was later waived with an injury settlement. Now, NFL insider Mike Garafolo is reporting that Cox has finally been cleared by doctors and can return to play. He is reportedly expected to work out for teams "in the near future".
NFL News: Veteran Defender Jabril Cox Trying to Make NFL Return
Now that he is cleared by doctors after being an injury designation, Cox is eligible to sign with any team in the NFL.
This is an excellent news for the veteran linebacker. The 26-year-old defender is still young enough to re-establish his career. With plenty of teams around the league looking for more depth at linebacker, he will surely get a chance on a practice squad soon.
