Cowboys Player Who Could Leave This Offseason Makes Plea to Return
By Cem Yolbulan
Now that their disastrous season is finally over, the Dallas Cowboys are focusing on the offseason. The fanbase is desperately hoping for the 2025 offseason to be better than last season's which saw multiple key contributors leave without proper replacements.
Tough decisions await Jerry Jones and the front office. The head coaching decision, understandably, is at the front of the mind and is the biggest one the management will make in the offseason. Once that is taken care of, however, free agency will begin.
One of the pending free agents is veteran defender Carl Lawson. After signing a one-year deal with the Cowboys before the season, Lawson will be on the market once again. The 29-year-old defensive end revealed that he wants to return to Dallas "100 percent".
Cowboys News: Carl Lawson Wants to Stay in Dallas
This was a major bounce-back season for Lawson. After signing a three-year, $45 million deal with the New York Jets in 2021, Lawson suffered a brutal Achilles injury and missed the entire season. He has been trying to get back to his old days but only played in six games for the Jets last season and appeared in 24% of the available defensive snaps.
Lawson was promoted to the Cowboys' active roster on October 9 and played a big defensive role after DeMarcus Lawrence suffered a season-ending injury. During Marshawn Kneeland and Micah Parsons' injury absences, Lawson saw a large share of defensive snaps and delivered five sacks, 15 QB hits, and four tackles for loss in 15 games.
In the NFL, you can never have too many pass rushers. Especially considering the potential free agency departure of DeMarcus Lawrence, the Cowboys would be wise to keep Lawson around for another season.
