Cowboys Playmaker is Dallas' Biggest Offseason Loser So Far

After spending the entire last year refusing to address their running back needs, the Dallas Cowboys more than made up for it this offseason. Jerry Jones obviously made RB upgrade a top offseason priority, signing Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders in free agency. He then went on to add two more rushers through the draft, landing a steal with Jaydon Blue in the fifth round and taking a flyer on Phil Mafah out of Clemson in the seventh round.

This makes up an entirely revamped running back room after the departure of Rico Dowdle. It is also a crowded one. Considering that the Cowboys will likely bring four running backs into the season, one name currently on the roster will be the odd man out.

Deuce Vaughn's Days in Dallas Are Likely Numbered After Offseason Moves

This brings us to Deuce Vaughn, who should be considered this offseason's biggest loser for the Cowboys.

Dallas made it rather obvious that they don't believe Vaughn is ready to hit another level next season by bringing in four running backs so far.

Since being selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Vaughn has had limited opportunities in Dallas over the last two seasons. Yet, he failed to do much in those opportunities.

In 14 games with the Cowboys, Vaughn averaged 2.8 yards per carry on 40 attempts while adding a total of 58 yards in ten catches in the passing game. The Cowboys utilized him briefly as a punt returner in his rookie season, as well. In four punt returns, Vaughn ran for 19 yards, averaging a disappointing 4.8 yards per return.

At this point in his career, Vaughn may need a fresh start. It's hard to imagine him getting much of an opportunity in Dallas in the crowded RB room. Whether he gets that chance at a fresh start before training camp, however, remains to be seen.
