Cowboys Quickly Bring Back Player Who Was Just Cut on Tuesday
By Cem Yolbulan
The NFL trade deadline is officially behind us. The Dallas Cowboys made one significant move by acquiring WR Jonathan Mingo from the Carolina Panthers. They also moved on from defensive tackle Jordan Phillips and cornerback Andrew Booth. While this was a disappointing outcome for Cowboys fans, this was to be expected from Jerry Jones & Co.
However, it seems like the Cowboys are not done making moves. In fact, they brought back one of the players they released earlier in the week. The team officially announced that they are signing Booth to the practice squad.
Cowboys News: Dallas Brings Back CB Andrew Booth
This is understandable as Dallas has been dealing with injuries to their defensive backfield. DaRon Bland has yet to make his season debut, Trevon Diggs is still banged up, and backup CB Amani Oruwariye was placed on the IR list last week. Booth will act as insurance for the cornerback rotation of Bland, Diggs, Caelen Carson, and C.J. Goodwin.
Booth has appeared in three games so far this season between Weeks 4 and 6. He saw 38 defensive and 25 special teams snaps. In his limited role, he wasn't particularly effective, allowing three catches in three targets and a 118.8 passer rating.
The Cowboys traded for Booth in exchange for another disappointing defender, Nahshon Wright. The former third-round pick has yet to make his debut for the Vikings. Booth, the 42nd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, is running out of time to establish his career. Whether he will get another chance to be elevated to the active roster and make his case remains to be seen.
