Cowboys Sign Failed Draft Pick to Fill DeMarvion Overshown's Roster Spot

The Dallas Cowboys are in the midst of one of the most disappointing seasons in franchise history. A campaign that started with Super Bowl aspirations are headed to a losing record as the Cowboys sit in third place in the NFC East with a 6-8 record.
Injuries have obviously been one of the biggest culprits of the disastrous season. Even though the Cowboys didn't look like a Super Bowl contender well before the injury bug hit, once Dak Prescott was ruled out for the rest of the season, the Cowboys were essentially done.
Yet, it was the defensive side of the ball that was the bigger issue. One of the names that suffered an unfortunate injury was standout linebacker DeMarvion Overshown. The second-year player tore multiple knee ligaments in Week 14 and was ruled out until at least the middle of next season.
After placing Overshown on the injured reserve list, the Cowboys filled his roster spot with one of their recent draft picks. Dallas just announced the signing of Justin Rogers, who the Cowboys selected in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Rogers failed to make the 53-man roster before the season and was released by the Cowboys. The Bengals wasted no time adding him to the practice squad, but Rogers has yet to make his NFL debut. The former Auburn standout still being on the practice squad allowed the Cowboys to sign him to their active roster before the final three games of the season.
The 23-year-old defensive tackle will likely make his debut with the Cowboys in Week 16, albeit in limited snaps. He will be behind Mazi Smith and Osa Odighizuwa in the pecking order and will try to steal playing time over Linval Joseph and Carlos Watkins. Whether Rogers will be able to establish his NFL career with the Cowboys remains to be seen.
