The Dallas Cowboys had a 2024 season to forget. Decimated by injuries on both ends of the field all year, the Cowboys ended up finishing 7-10 with one of the worst defensive units in football.

A big factor in the disappointing performance was Trevon Diggs' underwhelming performance, followed by his injury. Diggs returned from his ACL tear that forced him to miss all but two games in 2023, but he was slow to get back to his old self. He was unfortunately ruled out for the rest of the season with a left knee injury in December.

Diggs underwent surgery on his knee on Thursday, per ESPN's Todd Archer. The procedure called chondral tissue graft surgery could reportedly keep him out through training camp, if not longer.

Cowboys News: Trevon Diggs Could Miss Part of Next Season

This is a concerning development for the talented defender. Two back-to-back major knee surgeries certainly raise questions about Diggs' effectiveness as a player going forward. Once one of the premier ballhawks in the league and a surefire All-Pro cornerback, Diggs has struggled in recent years. He is still young enough to bounce back but these injuries will likely take a toll on his athleticism and explosiveness.

This update also creates serious question marks for the Cowboys. Once one of the best cornerback rotations in the league, the Cowboys now have to face the reality that it is an area in need of serious upgrade. DaRon Bland wasn't the same after returning from his foot injury, rookie Caelen Carson wasn't the solution to the team's problems, and Jourdan Lewis is a free agent.

Diggs is entering the third season of his five-year, $97 million extension. His $9 million base salary for next season already became guaranteed. Whether Jerry Jones will invest more resources into the position, whether through the draft or free agency remains to be seen.
