The Dallas Cowboys wrapped up the latest round of organized team activities (OTAs) on Friday as they prepare for the mandatory minicamp starting on June 10. The new coaching staff is getting a chance to evaluate the roster, including the returning veterans, rookies, and experienced newcomers. It is also an opportunity for players to get to know their coaches and get on the same page about expectations.

So far, head coach Brian Schottenheimer has left a positive impression on players, and new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus is receiving praise from his players. Stud defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa spoke to the media on Friday and complimented Eberflus' approach during the workouts.

While doing so, however, he took a slight shot at former DC Mike Zimmer.

Osa Odighizuwa Takes Subtle Shot at Former Cowboys Coach

Odighizuwa said that if he had been coached last season the way he is being treated now, he could have made a lot more plays, per Cowboys insider Jon Machota. Even though the former 2021 third-rounder didn't name Zimmer specifically, it isn't too hard to read between the lines.

Perhaps the talented defensive tackle isn't wrong in his criticism.

Under Zimmer, the Cowboys' defense took a nosedive, going from a top-ten unit for three straight seasons to the second-worst unit in the NFL. The group completely fell apart as the season progressed, resulting in one of the most disappointing seasons in recent Cowboys history.

Despite the poor coaching help, Odighizuwa had one of his best seasons as a pro, earning himself a massive four-year, $80 million extension in March.

The 26-year-old had 4.5 sacks, 23 QB hits, and five tackles for loss in 17 starts last season and was one of the more reliable defenders on the team. He will once again be depended upon on the defensive line as he is projected to start alongside Mazi Smith, with Micah Parsons and Dante Fowler Jr. on either end of them.

Hopefully, that unit will be able to elevate their game to another level under Eberflus' guidance. After all, the Cowboys' chances of making the playoffs could depend on it.
