Former Cowboys QB Released Right After Dak Prescott Injury
By Cem Yolbulan
The Dallas Cowboys lost three straight games to fall to 3-5 for the season as they enter the second half of the campaign. Besides trading for Jonathan Mingo, they largely decided to stand pat at the deadline.
The biggest thing they need to figure out for their Week 10 matchup against the Eagles and beyond is their quarterback situation. Dak Prescott suffered a serious hamstring injury last week, putting his status for the rest of the season in jeopardy.
While the Cowboys have to find an answer between Cooper Rush and Trey Lance, the rest of the league is making roster moves. The NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles reportedly made a change to their QB depth immediately following the trade deadline. Per Eagles insider Jeff Mclane, Philadelphia released former Cowboys signal-caller Will Grier from their practice squad.

Grier could now be an option for the Cowboys who need more depth at quarterback after Prescott's injury. Plus, considering that Dallas and Philadelphia are meeting on Sunday, bringing Grier in could give the Cowboys an edge in preparation for their rivals.
The 29-year-old spent two seasons in Dallas but never made an appearance. In fact, he hasn't played in an NFL game since he was a rookie in Carolina in 2019. Once the Cowboys traded for Trey Lance, Grier was no longer needed and he was waived before the 2023 season. He then spent time with the Bengals, Patriots, Chargers, and the Eagles, but hasn't been able to crack an active roster.
The Eagles now don't have a QB on their practice squad, but they are among teams that have three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster. Tanner McKee and Kenny Pickett continue to be the backups for Jalen Hurts.
