Latest Dak Prescott Injury Update All But Ends Mike McCarthy’s Cowboys Tenure
By Cem Yolbulan
The Dallas Cowboys are entering the second half of the season with a miserable 3-5 record and an injured Dak Prescott. As the Cowboys suffered their third straight loss against the Falcons on Sunday, things took a bleaker turn when it was announced that Prescott had suffered a serious hamstring injury.
It was later revealed that Prescott had a partial avulsion of his hamstring tendon that could require surgery on the portion of the muscle that had torn from the bone. As serious as that sounded, Prescott wasn't interested in surgery and wanted to seek second opinions.
Despite the fact that the Cowboys are facing an uphill battle to make the postseason and it makes more sense for both sides to keep Prescott sidelined, the team elected to keep their star QB off the injured reserve list at first.
However, both Prescott and the Cowboys eventually saw the writing on the wall. On Saturday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Prescott was planning to undergo season-ending surgery, pending one final medical opinion.

Schefter added that the surgery would sideline him for four months. The only silver lining here is the fact that Prescott would be ready for his usual offseason and training camp workload based on this timeline.
While it was admirable for Prescott to want to play and help save his team's season, this was the smart decision for both sides.
This also effectively ends the Mike McCarthy era in Dallas. It is hard to imagine the team going on a run with Cooper Rush or Trey Lance under center, especially with the next three games coming against the Eagles, Texans, and the Commanders. Already a lame duck due to his expiring contract, McCarthy's days in Dallas are numbered after this disastrous update.
