Latest Injury Update Signals the End of Cowboys Star's Time in Dallas
By Cem Yolbulan
It has been a season from hell for the Dallas Cowboys. Having started the 2024 campaign with lofty aspirations, the Cowboys have been nowhere near the Super Bowl contender status they were hoping for. They threw in the towel pretty early in the season and are now awaiting the end of the season and a miracle to make the playoffs with a 6-8 record.
One of the biggest culprits for the disappointment has been injuries. The Cowboys were hit by the injury bug pretty early in the season, and the bad luck continued all season. One of the earliest injuries was to star defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence. The 32-year-old edge rusher suffered a foot injury against the New York Giants in Week 4 and has been out since.
There was an expectation that Lawrence would be able to return before the end of the season, but that is growing increasingly less likely. Head coach Mike McCarthy provided an update on Monday, saying that Lawrence won't be back on the practice field this week, meaning that he will miss Week 16 against the Bucs, per Cowboys insider Nick Harris.
Cowboys Provide Disappointing Injury Update on DeMarcus Lawrence
This potentially signals that Lawrence will not be back again this season. The Cowboys will likely be out of playoff contention after Sunday and there will not be much of a reason to bring back a veteran defender for the final two weeks of the season. Even if Dallas wanted to, there is no indication that Lawrence will be ready to go.
Considering that Lawrence will be a free agent after the season, this could mean the end of his tenure in Dallas. The former second-round pick has been one of the best defensive players on the team for the past 11 years, making four Pro Bowls in the process. Unfortunately, the Cowboys are in a difficult financial situation and will likely find it hard to give him the contract extension he desires. Let's hope that is not the case but it seems like Lawrence may have already played his final game for Dallas.
