Micah Parsons Situation Has Officially Blown Up in Cowboys' Faces
By Cem Yolbulan
There has been ongoing drama with the Dallas Cowboys all season long. A day doesn't go by without a player, coach, or Jerry Jones saying or doing something that results in an embarrassing news cycle for the team.
There has always been drama in Dallas, but at least in previous years, the team delivered on the field. This season, the Cowboys have one of the worst defenses in the league and haven't found any chemistry on either end of the field.
One of the reasons for that is the injuries. DaRon Bland, Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, Eric Kendricks, and Marshawn Kneeland all suffered serious injuries early in the season.
In the NFL, injuries are unavoidable. What is avoidable, however, is the utter lack of a coherent strategy for how to manage them. The Cowboys' handling of Micah Parsons' injury has been a complete disaster.
Cowboys' Mismanagement of the Micah Parsons Situation is Embarrassing
Parsons suffered an ankle sprain in Week 4 against the Giants. In the ensuing five weeks, the Cowboys didn't provide transparent enough updates, hinting that the star defender was closer to returning than he was. Heading into Week 9, he is still not practicing and will likely miss his fourth straight game.
If Parsons is going to miss his fourth straight game, why didn't the Cowboys place him on the IR list? This would have allowed them to add a player instead of wasting a roster spot.
This is especially unforgivable because the team is already missing multiple pass rushers. Sam Williams, Kneeland, and Lawrence are all out, leaving the rotation in shambles and forcing Tyrus Wheat and Carl Lawson to play extended roles.
If the injury to your best defender is serious enough to force him out of action for over a month, why not make a move to replace him on the trade market? This is especially infuriating considering that the Cowboys were looking an unconvincing 2-2 when Parsons went down. Did the front office really think the defense would magically improve in the absence of its best player?
It's still unclear when Parsons will return. Now, Trevon Diggs missed two practices in a row and DaRon Bland has yet to make his season debut, raising questions about the state of the locker room in Dallas.
