Micah Parsons Starts Beef With Patrick Mahomes With Latest Remarks
By Cem Yolbulan
The NFL is once again debating the issue of rules around the quarterback slide. The Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair's dirty late hit on Trevor Lawrence was rightfully criticized by many. At the same time, it brought about a discussion about how to protect the quarterbacks better.
Cowboys star defender Micah Parsons is known for always making sure his opinions are heard. He didn't shy away from addressing the issue and provided a helpful context from a defender's perspective.
While doing so, he took a not-so-subtle shot at Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes, one of the biggest culprits of the QB slide.
NFL News: Micah Parsons Takes Aim at Patrick Mahomes for QB Slide
Parsons pointed to the controversial play Mahomes has often used to gain extra yards. Mahomes likes to pretend like he is going out of bounds or about to slide before gaining a valuable few seconds until he does so. This provides a challenge for defenders who struggle with when to make the tackle.
Parsons said, "if a quarterback acts like he’s going out of bounds, he should go out of bounds, that’s where you should mark him at. If he’s acting like he’s going to slide, that’s where you should mark him at. Because at that point, it’s the contact issue."
"You see a lot of guys taking advantage and getting extra yards off that. And [Patrick] Mahomes wins games off that. We can’t act like these aren’t game-changing opportunities and plays that they’re extending drives on. So those are momentum changers. They definitely have to clear up the gray area. "

Parsons said that Mahomes wins games by taking advantage of this loophole and asked the NFL to make a rule change to prevent it.
Patriots linebacker Jahlani Tavai echoed the sentiment earlier this week when he said that tackling quarterbacks has become very difficult.
Whether the NFL will listen to these experienced defenders remains to be seen but it's obvious that there is an issue that needs to be addressed if the league cares about making it a more balanced and fair game for both sides of the ball.
