The Dallas Cowboys can officially spend a few weeks relaxing after finishing this year's organized team activities and mandatory minicamp. America's Team has officially turned its attention to next month's training camp, which will give Cowboys fans a better sense of the franchise's outlook for the 2025 season under new head coach Brian Schottenheimber.

Although OTAs present the perfect opportunity for players to step up and prove themselves to the coaching staff, other Cowboys failed to generate much momentum this spring. That includes one returning Dallas veteran who must now face an ugly truth after the latest offseason workouts shone a light on his outlook.

Cowboys OTAs Revealed Ugly Truth About RB Deuce Vaughn

Several Cowboys needed strong OTA showing to save their roster spots, including running back Deuce Vaughn.

The former 2023 sixth-rounder's first two NFL seasons have been disappointing, to say the least. Since the offseason started, the Cowboys have added veterans Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders to the backfield, as well as rookie RB Jaydon Blue, only making Vaughn's already-uphill battle that much steeper.

Instead of using the new competition as motivation to step up, Vaughn has been relatively quiet this spring. There haven't been many (if any) reports regarding his OTA and minicamp performances, whereas Williams, Sanders, and Blue have seemingly taken turns receiving praise from the coaching staff and media.

Cowboys fans have every right to be disappointed in Vaughn, especially when it was this time two years ago that he was unexpectedly dazzling everyone as a Day 3 pick. Fast forward now, and all signs point to the 23-year-old being kicked to the curb by Jerry Jones & Co. sooner rather than later — especially now that Schottenheimer's staff is experimenting with Vaughn's position.

On Thursday, Cowboys reporter Nick Harris revealed that Schottenheimer auditioned Vaughn as a wide receiver during last week's minicamp. Considering how major position changes are a coach's last-ditch effort to find a role for a player, the writing is clearly on the wall for the ex-Kansas State product.

In 14 career games with Dallas, Vaughn has recorded 110 rushing yards on 40 carries and 58 receiving yards on 10 catches without recording a touchdown. Barring any unexpected developments or an RB-related injury, chances are he won't get to build on those totals with the Cowboys next season.
