Perfect Cowboys WR Trade Target Emerges After Jets-Raiders Blockbuster
By Cem Yolbulan
The worst-kept secret in the NFL was officially made public on Tuesday when it was announced that Davante Adams was joining the New York Jets to reunite with Aaron Rodgers. The Raiders star was traded to the Jets to help salvage their season after a disappointing 2-4 start.
Every transaction in the NFL has a trickle-down effect and creates opportunities for the rest of the league. Adams joining the wide receiver corps of Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard means that there will potentially be pass-catchers on the trade block in New York.
The most obvious name here is veteran receiver Mike Williams. The 30-year-old who joined the Jets in the offseason after seven years with the Chargers, will likely see his already small offensive role reduced.
This could present an opportunity for WR-needy teams like the Cowboys. Williams is not the 1,000+ yard threat he once was after suffering an ACL tear in Week 3 of last season but he is still a valuable option. At 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, Williams is a force to be reckoned with thanks to his jump ball and deep-threat ability combined with his size. For his career, he is averaging 15.5 yards per reception.
Jerry Jones and the Cowboys front office may deny the need for another wide receiver but the lack of depth is obvious. Especially after Brandin Cooks' injury, Dallas lacks the offensive firepower outside of CeeDee Lamb. Getting a veteran playmaker like Mike Williams could alleviate these concerns and get the Cowboys offense back to respectability.
