The Dallas Cowboys and star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb have been involved in a protracted contract negotiation since the beginning of the offseason. The All-Pro playmaker has been holding out, not appearing in training camp while Jerry Jones continues to play hardball.

Lamb understandably wants to get paid like one of the best wide receivers in the league. The latest reporting from NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, however, suggests that he is not going to be satisfied unless he is the highest-paid receiver in the league.

Cowboys News: CeeDee Lamb Believes $33 Million Per Year is Too Low

Garafolo reported that the latest Cowboys' offer to Lamb was a $33 million average annual salary. This would make him the second-highest paid receiver in the league behind Minnesota's Justin Jefferson, who makes $35 million a year.

It turns out, Lamb shockingly turned down this offer from Dallas.

We obviously don't know the exact details of the negotiations. There are reportedly other factors like the contract structure and guarantees that are obstacles in getting a deal done. However, the fact that $33 million is not enough for Lamb to agree to the extension is concerning for the Cowboys.

This puts Dallas in a very difficult position. Dak Prescott is also on an expiring contract and will require over $50 million per year in an extension. Micah Parsons will be eligible for an extension and will likely have to get paid the highest salary for a defender in the NFL. Giving Lamb the highest non-QB contract in the league this summer will complicate things financially for the Cowboys.

At this point, however, the Cowboys may not have another choice. The regular season is less than three weeks away and Dallas simply can't start the year with massive question marks surrounding their two biggest offensive stars.
