Cowboys Already Considering Big Mistake With Jake Ferguson After Injury
The Dallas Cowboys had a very drama-filled offseason before getting the ball rolling on the 2024 season.
But the vibes are pretty high in Dallas right now after they secured a 33-17 win over the Cleveland Browns. They paid receiver CeeDee Lamb in late August to make him one of the highest-paid playmakers in the league. And hours before the opener, Dallas decided to make Dak Prescott the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.
But you know everything can't be perfect in the NFL and the Cowboys may be taking an unnecessary risk with tight end Jake Ferguson.
Cowboys News: Jake Ferguson May Take the Field in Week 2
Ferguson exited the Week 1 contest in the third quarter after suffering a knee injury. The test revealed that the 25-year-old has a sprained MCL, which is great news.
MCL sprains are typically weekly injuries but ESPN's Todd Archer reported that Ferguson may still suit in the Week 2 game against the New Orleans Saints.
That seems a bit excessive and could lead to extended absence if he furthers injuries to that knee.
In addition, Dallas has 2023 second-round pick Luke Schoonmaker and Brevyn Spann-Ford on the roster who can soften the blow at the position.
We all know that Ferguson is the best player out of this bunch but that's why you have depth on the team. The Cowboys are playing for the Super Bowl this year so it feels premature to put Ferguson out there.
Another reason why it could be a mistake is that Ferguson finished with three catches for 15 yards in the win on Sunday. He wasn't super productive in the victory so having him rest for a week would be the wise approach.
