Cowboys' Chances of Trading for Davante Adams Just Got Major Boost
By Cem Yolbulan
Whenever a star player of Davante Adams' caliber hits the trade block, naturally, there is a ton of speculation about his next destination. Every fanbase understandably wants to add an All-Pro playmaker mid-season but only one will be able to do so. And according to the latest reports, that will come down to the best offer.
NFL Rumors: Team With Best Offer Will Win Davante Adams Sweepstakes
There was concern among Adams' suitors that the star pass-catcher would force his way to the New York Jets because of his connection with Aaron Rodgers. Even though that is reportedly still his preferred destination, Ian Rapoport revealed that he is indeed open to playing in other teams. This allows the Raiders to go with the best trade package.
The Cowboys have all of their own draft picks for the next two years. If they wanted to, they could beat any offer, both in terms of player and draft compensation.
The more important question is whether the Cowboys should.
Adams has a potential out in his contract after this year and he has the risk of being a one-year rental. If he were to stay, that would potentially be another problem as the Cowboys are already financially limited.
Plus, we know that Jerry Jones & Co. loves to use the financials as an excuse to stand pat. They will point to CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott's salaries and the inevitable Micah Parsons extension to suggest that they can't afford to bring another high-salary player like Adams into the mix.
Yet, it's clear that there is a need for more juice on the offensive side of the field. The offense is too predictable and reliant on the Prescott-Lamb connection. Adding Adams could help elevate this group to the next level but whether the Cowboys' top brass agrees remains to be seen.
