As I'm sure you'll agree, the Dallas Cowboys' Week 1 win over the New York Giants was quite impressive. I mean, crushing your division rival in historic fashion on the road is a pretty great way to start the season.
Even more impressively, Dallas managed to do so without several key players, including left guard Tyler Smith (hamstring), safety Donovan Wilson (calf) and cornerback Jourdan Lewis (foot), all of whom missed the season opener with various injuries.
Fortunately, all are making progress in their recoveries and should be back on the field soon, according to team owner Jerry Jones.
Cowboys Week 2 Injury News
According to Jones, all three players (although perhaps with the exception of Smith) were on the verge of playing in Week 1, but ultimately sat for precautionary reasons. It's a long season, after all, and you want your players to be healthy at the end of it. No need to rush people back for Week 1 when there are still 16 more games to go (at least).
The extra rest appears to be paying off, as all three are "right at the cusp of playing" in Week 2, per Jones. Their returns would provide a nice boost to the offensive line and defense against the New York Jets, who are dealing with their own injury woes as well following Aaron Rodgers' season-ending Achilles tear during Monday Night Football.
Of course, we'll know more once the first official injury reports are released this week. Will they be on it or not? Time will tell, but it depends on what Mike McCarthy sees from them at practice.
If they're able to return, that will put us in even better position against the banged-up Jets this week. We're already listed as heavy home favorites against New York, and having those guys back could help us pull off another blowout win.
